The world is vast and full of places we have yet to visit. Although the current pandemic is stifling the world, humanity has endured similar incidents in the past. Though people may not be able to meet face to face right now, someday we will be able to come together and create animations again—not here but abroad! Animation residencies vary from country to country in their format and manner of operation. They are programs abroad where animators from many different countries can live together in one city while planning or making their work. Foreign residencies may seem daunting, so this special talk aims to dispel the myths by providing detailed information. So when the Covid-19 pandemic ends, you’ll be ready to pack your bags!

The Media Arts Division of the Festival will have a residency program that invites international and domestic animation artists to live in Hiroshima City for half a year (temporary planned between May-Oct 2022), to work on their works, and to make a short animation clip together with Hiroshima citizens that will be premiered at Hiroshima Festival in August 2022. Not only directors or animators, but also comic artists and scriptwriters are welcome.
