This animation is dedicated to thewomen who have lived through the modern history of Korea.

Director's Comment

[MissPark Project #1] began as a way of questioning the irony of the antagonism andhatred that arose during the 2016 candlelight vigils which forced formerpresident Park Geun-hye to resign from office. At the time, ‘Miss Park’ becamea scornful nickname for the then-president. In response, I wanted to use thetechnique of animation to bring the countless Miss Parks through history intothe present day without turning them into a monolithic symbol. Created throughlong-hours of hand-made work – tearing, cutting, and removing layers – thisanimation offers sympathy, partly in memory of my own mother ‘Miss Park’ whowas a daughter, sister, wife, and mother, and also for the countless women wholived through the twists and turns of modern Korean history.
