Synopsis

Yeoul grew up on a horse ranch on Jeju Island. Moving to Seoul, she slowly drifts away from Hori, the horse who was once her closest childhood friend. She holds onto that bond through a small horse keyring on her bag, adjusting herself to the pace of the city. One day, worn down by that pace, she notices a tiny horse running inside a taxi meter, stuck in traffic. The keyring comes alive and leaps out the window. Yeoul chases after it and finds herself a child again.

Director's Comment

The sense of a bygone time returns to life the moment we happen to catch it. To face a single moment from the past is enough to feel, briefly, like arriving home.

Yeoul, in this film, stands in for all of us living at the pace of the city. Through her story, I wanted to show the precious moments we lose sight of in our busy lives, moments that, in truth, never disappear. Like the small horse that suddenly wakes inside a taxi meter, I believe there are memories in our weary everyday lives still waiting to come back to life.

The title Homestretch carries this double meaning: it is both the finish line and the point at which we return, once again, to where we started.
