Synopsis

The PLAYGROUND is an animated short film depicting conflicts arising a daydreaming Girl's curiosity towards a Boy she notices at the playground.

Director's Comment

When I was a child, I used to spend a lot of time in the playground. At the playground, I would make new friends which always struck me with a ambivalent emotions -- attraction and wariness. I was curious, but at the same time cautious. But, in my innocence, I accepted the other kid without thinking twice. Now that I'm old, I'm even more cautious. I find myself rushing to conclusions when seeing someone for the first time despite any attraction I might feel towards that person. It's through these brief judgments that I decide whether or not I want to form relationships with others. Is this because I grew up being told to "Stay away from strangers," or because I've simply become jaded? By reexamining the way I interact with people as a child, I want to explore the possibilities of taking an adventure with a stranger, even if it's just a daydream or a threatening nightmare. By facing a reconstructed memory of a nightmarish relationship, I hope to objectify the experience and separate myself and others who share experiences from the trauma.
