Synopsis

Dodo, a 7th grader in middle school, has a secret. Whenever she feels emotionally overwhelmed, she creates a creature called the 'Blood Monster.' Her mother tries everything to make Dodo stop. She takes her to a traditional Korean medicine clinic, has her try herbal medicine, and even scolds her, but Dodo continues to summon the Blood Monster over and over again.

Director's Comment

In the real world, Dodo would have kept her scars hidden, secretly harming herself. Even as an adult, if she never spoke about it, her mother would never know. But I imagined a different possibility. What if, no matter how much Dodo tried to hide her self-harm, the Blood Monster made it impossible? What if her mother discovered the truth because of it? At first, she would react with anger and despair, trying to get rid of the Blood Monster. But over time, wouldn’t she eventually try to understand Dodo and help her overcome her trauma? By the end of the film, I hope the audience finds themselves rooting for Dodo, her mother, and the Blood Monster—believing that somehow, they will find a way to move forward together.
