ABOUTTHE FESTIVAL
The 19th Seoul Indie-AniFest organizedby KIAFA, Korean Independent Animation Filmmakers Association and co-organizedby Seoul Indie-AniFest Executive Committee will take place in Seoul, Korea from14th to 19th September 2023.
Seoul Indie-AniFest is a festival thatseeks to introduce wonderful, independent animation from Korea and Asia,offering diversity and opportunity as well as communication with the audience.
With the value of ‘Independence’,‘Experiment’, ‘Passion’ and ‘Vision’, Independent animation directors make thisfestival together.
CATEGORY
1) Asian Short Film Competition: ASIAROAD (Except Korean Works)
2) Feature Film Competition: MIRINAEROAD (Include Korean Works)
2) Panorama (Out of competition)
*NOTE: The Festival does not pay screening fees for the selected works in thecompetition or panorama.
GENERALRULES
1) There is no entry fee.
2) Entry Period:
- ASIA ROAD: 2023. 04. 17 ~ 2023. 06. 19
- MIRINAE ROAD: 2023. 04. 17 ~ 2023. 07.09
3) Qualification for Entry:
- ASIA ROAD: Maximum running time 40minutes
Only works completed after January 2022 and never previously enteredat Seoul Indie-AniFest will be accepted.
- MIRINAE ROAD: Minimum running time 40minutes
Only works completed after August 2021 and never previously enteredat Seoul Indie-AniFest will be accepted.
- Works were produced in Asiancountries.
- If a film was produced by more thanone country, it must have at least one Asian country included.
- Non-English language films must haveEnglish subtitles or provide English scripts.
SUBMISSION PROCEDURE
1) Submission materials:
- Entry form (available on the officialfestival website: http://ianifest.org/en)
- A preview screener of the film
- Director’s photograph
- 3 still images from the film (min. 300dpi)
- Dialogue list in English
2) Films with dialogue or narration inlanguages other than English should have English subtitles. Films with dialogueor narration in English are recommended to be entered with a screener withEnglish subtitles.
3) For each film, the applicant isrequired to fill out a separate entry form and submit a screener of the film.
4) The submitted work must be in thefinal edited version.
5) Materials can be submitted:
Upload one’s submission toFilmFreeway(https://filmfreeway.com/IndieAniFest) or send the requiredmaterials through Seoul Indie-AniFest’s e-mail. ([email protected])
When you submit with an e-mail, apreview screener must be submitted with online entering a link and a passwordfor download in the application form. Preview screener must be available fordownload until 25 August 2023.

Films with dialogues or narration inlanguages other than English must have integrated English subtitles.
2) For Selected Works
(1) DCP - no encryption key
(2) HD Files - Mov with ProRes 422 HQ,mp4 with h264, uncompressed AVI etc.
SELECTIONAND AWARD
1) PRE-SELECTION
The jury for the Pre-selection, made upto 3 experts in animation and related fields appointed by the Seoul Indie-AniFestExecutive Committee, is responsible for choosing works presented in ASIA ROADand MIRINAE ROAD. The result of ASIA ROAD will be announced on 3 July 2023, andMIRINAE ROAD is 31 July 2023.

2) FINAL SELECTION
The jury for the Final Selection, madeup to 3 experts in animation and related fields appointed by the Seoul Indie-AniFestExecutive Committee, is responsible for choosing the award-winning films. Thefinal result will be announced on 19 September 2023 at closing ceremony.

SCREENINGCOPY TRANSPORT
For the selected works, submitters areresponsible for all shipping expenses for the final screening materials to thefestival.
The festival is responsible for theshipping costs with the return of material to the submitters. Submitters mustinform the festival how and when the screening copies are sent.
All materials must be sent with thefollowing statement:
“No commercial value, for culturalpurposes only”; materials sent by express courier (DHL, FedEx etc.) must beaccompanied by a pro-forma invoice amounting to a maximum of 20 USD. Thescreening copy will be returned within two weeks after the Festival on theaddress stated in the entry form.
All screening materials in thecompetition must arrive at the festival before 7 August 2023.
INVITATION
The directors of the selected filmscould be invited to come to the Seoul Indie-AniFest2023 according to festival’spolicy. In that case, they will get a guest accreditation which grants freeaccess to all screenings and events and the Festival will cover theaccommodation costs depending on festival’s budget.
RIGHTSAND RETURN
Each submitter declares to be the authoror rights owner of the submitted film(s) and to own all literary, dramatic, andmusical rights.
- The Festival has the right to use allmaterials related to the submission as well as a film excerpt up to 10 percentof the total length of the film that will not exceed more than 3 minutes for promotionalpurposes.
- After Seoul Indie-AniFest2023, selectedfilms or award-winning films will be included in Seoul Indie-Ani Tour asadditional screenings after getting right holder’s permission.
- The submitted work in ASIA ROAD and MIRINAEROAD can be taken into consideration for the panorama and special section.
- All the materials submitted for thepre-selection will not be returned, but will be included in the Festival’slibrary.
The Festival takes responsibility forthe screening copy of the film from the arrival at the festival office to itsreturning. In case of damage during the festival period, the Festival willreimburse only the material value of physical copies (after a presentation ofthe original invoice). The Festival is not responsible for copies lost intransport, unless the loss has been caused by the Festival’s doings.
