ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The 15th Indie-AniFest, organised by KIAFA, Korean Independent Animation Filmmakers Association and co-organized by Indie-AniFest Executive Committee will take place in CGV Myeongdong Station from 19th to 24th September, 2019. Indie Ani-Fest is a festival that seeks to introduce wonderful, independent animation from Korea and Asia, offering diversity and opportunity as well as communication with the audience. With the value of ‘Independence’, ‘Experiment’, ‘Passion’ and ‘Vision’, Independent animation directors make this festival together.
CATEGORY
Indie-AniFest consists of the following categories :
(1) Korean Competition : Independent Walk, First Flight (Animation was produced by Korean or completed in Korea)
(2) Asian Competition : ASIA ROAD (Except Korean Works)
(3) Panorama (Out of competition)
(4) Invited Programs : (Special Screenings under the theme)
NOTE : The Festival does not pay screening fees for the selected works in the competition or panorama.
GENERAL RULES OF ASIA ROAD
1) There is no entry fee.
2) Entry Period : 15 April ~ 23 June 2019 (Online or Mail)
3) Qualification for Entry :
- Only works completed after August 2017 and never previously entered at Indie-AniFest will be accepted.
- Works were produced in Asian countries.
- If a film was produced by more than one country it must have at least one Asian country included.
- Non-English language films must have English subtitles or provide English scripts.
SUBMISSION PROCEDURE
For each film, the applicant is required to fill out a separate entry form and submit a screener of the film.
- Submission materials : director’s photograph, 3 still images from the film (min. 300 dpi), dialogue list in English.
- Films with dialogue or narration in languages other than English should have English subtitles.
- A screener can be submitted :
1) Online – entering a link and a password for download in the online application form. A screener must be available for download until 1 August 2019.
2) Regular (air) mail or express courier – A DVD screener should reach the Festival office by 23 June, 2019. DVDs should have their English title clearly marked on all covers.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
1) For Pre-Selection Reviewing
- DVD or digital file with the following technical specifications:
Format: Quicktime or MPEG4
Codec: H264
Resolution: 1920x1080 or 1280x720
Bitrate: max. 10000kbit/s.
Films with dialogues or narration in languages other than English must have integrated English subtitles.
2) For Selected Works, one of the following is required for the official competition screenings.
- HD CAM
- High Definition File
SELECTION AND AWARD
1) PRE-SELECTION
The jury for the Pre-selection, made up to 3 experts in animation and related fields appointed by the Indie-Anifest Executive Committee, is responsible for choosing works presented in ASIA ROAD. The result will be announced no later than July 8, 2019 on the Indie-AniFest website, http://www.ianifest.org/
2) FINAL SELECTION
The jury for the Final Selection, made up to 3 experts in animation and related fields appointed by the Indie-AniFest Executive Committee, is responsible for choosing the award-winning films. The final result will be announced on September 24, 2019 at closing ceremony.
ASIA ROAD Awards :
Grand Prize ‘Light of Asia’ – 2,000,000 won with Trophy
Jury Special Prize – 1,000,000 won with Trophy
Audience Choice ‘Star of Festival’ – Trophy
SCREENING COPY TRANSPORT
For the selected works, submitters are responsible for all shipping expenses for the final screening materials to the festival. The festival is responsible for the shipping costs with the return of material to the submitters. Submitters must inform the festival how and when the screening copies are sent.
All materials must be sent with the following statement: “No commercial value, for cultural purposes only”
Materials sent by express courier (DHL, FedEx etc.) must be accompanied by a pro-forma invoice amounting to a maximum of 20 EUR or 20 USD. The screening copy will be returned within two weeks after the Festival on the address stated in the entry form.
All screening materials in the competition must arrive at the festival before 26 July 2019.
INVITATION
The directors of the selected films could be invited to come to the Indie-AniFest 2019 according to festival’s policy. In that case, they will get a guest accreditation which grants free access to all screenings and events and the Festival will cover the accommodation costs depending on festival’s budget.
RIGHTS, DONATION AND RETURN
Each submitter declares to be the author or rights owner of the submitted film(s) and to own all literary, dramatic and musical rights.
-The Festival has the right to use all materials related to the submission as well as a film excerpt up to 10 percent of the total length of the film that will not exceed more than 3 minutes for promotional purposes.
-After Indie-AniFest 2018, selected films or award-winning films will be included in Indie-AniTour as additional screenings after getting right holder’s permission.
-Award winning films will be included in DVD entitled “Indie-AniFest 2019” after getting right holder’s permission. -The submitted work in ASIA ROAD can be taken into consideration for the panorama and special section.
-All the materials submitted for the pre-selection will not be returned, but will be included in the Festival’s library.
The Festival takes responsibility for the screening copy of the film from the arrival at the festival office to its returning. In case of damage during the festival period, the Festival will reimburse only the material value of physical copies (after a presentation of the original invoice). The Festival is not responsible for copies lost in transport, unless the loss has been caused by the Festival’s doings.
